Email to a Friend Printer Friendly Version

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- The federal Environmental Protection Agency has awarded 400-thousand dollars to clean up two contaminated sites in Providence. The city will receive 200-thousand to clean up a so-called brownfields site where Louttit Laundry was once located. The former industrial site is in the city's West End. Another 200-thousand dollars will go to Johnson and Wales University. The university will use it to clean up contaminated soil at a former train maintenance pit. The site is located on the university's Harborside campus. It will be redeveloped as student housing, walking and jogging trails, field and track facilities and open space.
