PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- A woman who worked at the Social Security office in Pawtucket has been charged with creating hundreds of fraudulent Social Security cards. Federal prosecutors say that between May 2002 to July 2004, Maria Diaz created about 229 bogus Social Security numbers for illegal immigrants. They say she was paid between 200 and 500 dollars for each one. Diaz, who's 47, is charged with wire fraud. She's free on bail as a federal grand jury weighs the charges against her.
